Do you know what is Our Life at Home?
Written by live7n on October 4th, 2007
“Do you know what is Our Life at Home? Please do, and you will understand us much butter. Imagine a congested hut or a dingy room. Smoke and dust. Starvation or something near it. A consumptive father coughing his lungs out. Or a mother groaning groaning with cancer. Or a grown-up sister, unmarried, without any light of hope anywhere in her face. Or the little brothers or sisters going half-starved and half naked. Hardly and schooling.” In the socio-economic aspects of life for the lower middle class people and for the wage-earning section of them in particular, there has been a steady deterioration from year to year. In the struggle for existence, the primitive features of life in preference to the socially approved qualities of life and conduct, have been resorted to, regardless of public criticism for such dealings. The idea of individual freedom arising from political consciousness, carried to an excess in certain quarters, has aggravated the restlessness, which would otherwise find no scope for diabolical ventures for personal gains and their open ventilation in the public. The hearth-side recitations by the parents and elderly members of the family of the social scandals and calumnies accompanied by running commentaries on the age-old values of life and conduct are simply damaging the moral foundation of the rising generation.
