English writing by Indian writers and their Literature works

During the British period the Educated Indians had an ardent zeal for English literature as well as language. They love to read English literature and their keen knowledge in the English language helped them in English writings. That is why we got a strong history of English writings by Indians authors of different branches in English literatures. The origin of Indian writing in English and the gradual development are directly traceable to the firm establishment of British colonial rule in India. Lord Macaulay was the first British Administrator in India who introduced the English education in India. The upper middle class Indians at that time start learning this language and got some inspiration from the creativity of English literatures. The urge for modernizing education and the spirit of revolutionary nationalism created a confrontational culture among the socially conscious thoughtful, educated community of India. They have a genuine love for English language and literature as well. What is more the great literature inspired greatly. Its impacts on Indian minds make them more conscious about right and the intellectuals Indian engaged them in literary creations. The number of such Indian English writers is not ignorable. In fact the literature works in English, written by the Indian writer now established feature in English literature.
What cause did prompt the Indian writes to attempt English writing, leaving aside their own language? There are many reason behind that- one of such reason was the ambition to establish them as an Englishman by writing poetry, friction and drama in English. Some other reasons are like that the natural ambition to have a place among the renowned. In 1864 Bankim Chandra Chattopadhaya wrote an English novel titled ‘Rajmohan’s wife’. Raja Ram Mohan Roy did some religious and reformative works in English like ‘The precepts of Jesus’ and ‘The guide to peace and happiness’ revealed the fluency as well as the force of his English prose style. Swami Vivekananda is also to be respectfully remembered here for his contribution for his speeches and philosophical tracts. Henry Derozio, an Anglo-Indian had English verses, inspirited with ummitigated love for the father land. As a versifier in English poetry, Modhusudan may not appear much impressive, but historically he had a significant contribution to the conscious use of Indian imagery and Indian mythology in English poetry by an Indian writer.
